Calix Executive Tour Yields Strong Impressions from Business Press
and Analysts
Calix is the largest telecom equipment supplier focused
solely on access solutions for broadband service delivery. Engage PR began
working with Calix in November 2004.
The Approach
During the Fall of 2005, Calix gained momentum in
the industry with the announcements of its acquisition of Optical
Solutions, Inc. (OSI) and a significant customer win with Embarq (formerly Sprint/Nextel) through a joint
partnership with Nortel.
In addition, Calix had plans to announce major
product news in early 2006, along with the close of the Optical Solutions
acquisition. Engage PR wanted to capitalize on the momentum that Calix had developed in late 2005 to highlight the
company's growth and strength in the access space. Engage PR and Calix planned a major PR campaign for the company's CEO
to communicate Calix's continued access
innovation, recent corporate successes, and overall growth.
The Result
Engage PR arranged a total of 23 meetings with high-level business and
trade press, including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal,
Financial Times, Telephony, and Light Reading.
As a direct result of the tour, Calix's CEO was
quoted by The New York Times in a story about net neutrality.
Shortly after the tour, Calix was included in a
story from the Associated Press on IPTV and was selected by Fortune
as one of nine tech companies whose IPO is worth waiting for.
The Takeaway
By clearly communicating the impact of its successful acquisition and
partnership win to high-level media and analyst influencers, Calix was able to highlight its momentum and validate
its position as the leader in the broadband access market. As a result,
major media influencers have identified Calix as
a company poised for continued success.
Engage
PR Helps Make Reconnex Insider Threat Index a Trusted Source for Editors
Reconnex is the standard for electronic risk
discovery for Fortune 1000 companies, government organizations, financial
institutions, and healthcare providers that want to protect their brands,
shareholder value, and mission-critical operations from the insider threat.
The company became a client of Engage PR in November 2004.
The Approach
Are employees, contractors, and partners inadvertently or maliciously
leaking personal information or intellectual property over the network?
Does the corporation comply with regulations governing data privacy? To
help enterprises understand the threat insiders pose to network security, Reconnex began publishing a quarterly Insider Threat
Index™ in June of 2005. The Index provides statistics
about unknown threats to enterprise network security, based on raw data Reconnex gathers during 48-hour e-Risk Rapid
Assessments. Engage PR and Reconnex have raised
awareness of the extent of the insider threat, positioned Reconnex as a trusted source of reliable statistics,
and capitalized on threat trends by publicizing every issue of the Insider
Threat Index and proactively sharing it with key editors and analysts.
The Result
Because Reconnex draws its statistics from a
large database of enterprise companies, publications such as USA Today
and The Wall Street Journal, and media outlets such as MSNBC
have come to trust the Index and reference it in articles. Engage PR has
also provided the Index data to a wide variety of editors for use in recent
news and trend articles on the insider threat. As a result, the data has
also been included in top-tier trade publications such as Red Herring,
Network World, and eWeek.
The Takeaway
Regularly releasing and promoting threat index data has raised awareness
not only of the seriousness of the insider threat but also of Reconnex and its products.
Launch
of WVE Initiative Reinforces Network Chemistry's Reputation as Industry Leader
Network
Chemistry is the industry standard for securing the mobile enterprise. The
world's most successful enterprises and demanding government agencies trust
Network Chemistry's wireless security solutions to prevent attacks, detect
vulnerabilities, intrusions and policy violations, accelerate incident
response, and conduct surveys for wireless LAN deployment planning. The
company has been an Engage PR client since mid-2005.
The Approach
In December 2005, Network Chemistry announced it was spearheading the first
public database to aggregate and catalog emerging wireless vulnerabilities
and exploits (WVE) (http://www.wirelessve.org).
The vendor-neutral WVE initiative, which is co-sponsored by several other
leading security organizations, is characteristic of Network Chemistry's
leadership in the wireless security industry and its commitment to giving
back to the technical community. In addition to conducting a press and
analyst tour to support the WVE announcement, EPR and Network Chemistry
also looked for creative ways to demonstrate the expertise of the company's
executives and WVE board members in wireless network security, and
establish the WVE database as the industry's leading source of information
on wireless threats.
The Result
The WVE launch quickly resulted in a dozen articles in the trade and
business press, including Telephony, FierceWireless,
and CIO Today. EPR parlayed a positive article in Network World
into a widely read bi-monthly column that has consistently been included in
the top five most-read columns at the publication each week. In addition, InfoWorld
ran a podcast interview with Dr. Chris Waters,
co-founder and CTO of Network Chemistry. The WVE database has now served
more than 500,000 users and includes more than 100 entries, and dozens of
published articles have referenced it as a source.
The Takeaway
By spearheading an industry-wide initiative, Network Chemistry demonstrated
its thought leadership and its position as the wireless security experts.
Network Chemistry remains dedicated to the technical community and
continues to spearhead the industry's only Wireless Vulnerabilities and
Exploits (WVE) database, which has rapidly become the industry standard for
reporting and tracking wireless threats.
