Airespace Wins Multiple Network Computing "Well-Connected" Awards and a
"Best in Wireless" Award at NetWorld+Interop
Airespace designs and develops intelligent Wireless
LAN (WLAN) networking platforms that support business-critical applications
for enterprises. Engage PR began working with Airespace
in May 2003, after the company's initial product launch.
As a part of its strategy to position Airespace
as a key player in the WLAN industry, Engage PR worked with Network
Computing after Airespace's system received
the highest score and was awarded the Network Computing
"Editor's Choice" Award in a head-to-head WLAN bakeoff in
September 2003. This award put Airespace in the
running for Network Computing's "Well-Connected" Wireless Category
Award, the "Well-Connected" Enterprise Wireless LAN Award, and
the coveted "Well-Connected Product of the Year" Award. To keep
top of mind with Network Computing's editors, Airespace
and Engage PR constantly updated them on all news and offered input for
relevant features. When the "Well-Connected" awards were
announced at NetWorld+Interop this spring, Airespace walked away the winner in all three
categories. Airespace was chosen for the
industry-wide awards based on its superior product performance and
value-added business benefit.
The "Best of Interop" awards, also
announced at N+I, are given by CMP Media (the parent company of Network
Computing, Network Magazine, CRN, and VARBusiness)
to recognize and honor the latest technological advancements in the
networking industry. Twelve editors from the four CMP publications
collaborate to decide which companies have made the most profound impact in
networking over the last year. Engage PR and Airespace
went beyond the award submission process to target possible judges months
before N+I, providing them with informational packets with white papers and
FAQs explaining the innovative Smart Antenna
technology used in Airespace's new Intelligent RF
Access Point (IRAP) product. Engage PR and Airespace
took extra steps to thoroughly prepare the judges before they voted,
distinguishing Airespace from more than 170
submissions. When the awards were announced at the show, Airespace won the "Best of Interop"
award in the Wireless Technology category.
Engage PR's ability to guide Airespace
in determining what the media sought in the awards criteria and then help Airespace to proactively influence the decision makers
helped Airespace to secure several prestigious
awards in venues highly regarded by many of its target customers. These
awards clearly separate Airespace from its
competitors and position the company as the leader in the WLAN switch
market.
Leveraging
Existing Trends to Create a Buzz
MetroFi is a wireless broadband provider building community
area networks designed to change the economics of broadband access. Engage
PR began working with MetroFi in February 2004.
In preparation for its first market trial in Santa
Clara this summer, MetroFi was
interested in securing coverage in the Silicon Valley
press to generate interest from local talent to join the MetroFi team. Engage PR targeted Silicon
Valley and Bay Area press for MetroFi's
$9 million Series A funding announcement. To secure interest, Engage PR and
MetroFi focused on existing trends in wireless
and developed messaging that highlighted how MetroFi
would take 802.11 wireless (Wi-Fi)
to the next level to provide affordable, portable broadband access.
Because Wi-Fi technology has dominated the news
in 2003-2004, Engage PR pitched a story explaining how MetroFi's
network would leverage this readily available technology to deploy
high-performance, reliable, secure, and affordable consumer broadband
services city-wide. Through education on MetroFi's
unique approach, editors became receptive to covering the funding
announcement within the context of a wireless broadband innovation trend.
Engage PR briefed local press and secured an in-depth profile of MetroFi in the San Francisco Chronicle, which
appeared the day of the funding announcement. The Chronicle piece,
along with coverage in all the local business journals, created a buzz in
the Bay Area that led to broadcast coverage on KTVU TV and KCBS Radio. With
Engage PR's help, the funding announcement
generated more than 40 press hits, including CNET, Dow Jones/The
Wall Street Journal, and CBS MarketWatch.
By leveraging existing Wi-Fi trends to create a
frame of reference for new wireless broadband technologies, Engage PR
secured media interest in MetroFi's wireless
broadband innovation. As a result, MetroFi became
more recognizable to local talent, driving more qualified resumes to the
company. In addition, this media campaign will play an integral role as the
company brings its technology to market.
Megisto Contributed Article Sparks
Partner Interest
Megisto Systems delivers subscriber services switching
software that enables wireless operators to control and flexibly charge for
their mobile data services. Engage PR began working with Megisto in December 2000, and helped launch the
company's first product in May 2002.
To help build the company's corporate image to prospective customers and
partners, Megisto and Engage PR have worked
together on several PR programs to educate the market and to build up Megisto's brand. A key goal for Megisto
was to help educate the industry on the challenges and opportunities for
mobile data and position Megisto as an expert in
this market. Engage PR's contributed article
program has been one of the most effective PR tools for Megisto
to communicate its in-depth understanding of the challenges facing today's
mobile operators and highlight its expertise in this market.
In Q1, 2004 Engage PR secured a contributed article opportunity with Telephony
for Megisto's vice president of marketing and co-founder,
Carol Politi, on "Meeting Mobile Data
Demands as 3G Networks Emerge." Megisto's
sales and business development team leveraged the placed article to engage
with potential partners and customers.
The Telephony article caught the attention of a potential partner
for Megisto. When that executive later met with Politi, she used the article to kick-start a
conversation about the complexity of effectively tailoring mobile data
service and charging policies. The partner commented on how effectively the
article explained the problem/solution while clearly communicating Megisto's vision.
By focusing on an existing problem and a timely topic for wireless
operators and positioning Megisto as an expert on
this challenge, Engage PR placed the contributed article in a key
publication read by Megisto's audience. The
contributed article not only reached a key decision maker, but the content
promoted a larger discussion for client business development – making a clear case for the value of well-executed PR.
